Our Childbirth Education (antenatal) classes prepare parents to be for labour and birth, and becoming parents, in a friendly, informal, professional way.

We offer evening and weekend classes;

  • 2 1/4 hrs over eight Tuesday evenings

  • 2 1/4 hrs over six Monday evenings

  • 7 hrs over two consecutive Saturdays or Sundays

What's the difference between these classes? - nothing!   We want to offer a range of days and times to suit everyone.  Our educators cover the same material ,but use their own individual teaching methods and techniques.

Classes are limited to 12 couples.

Cost: $215 per family (pregnant woman plus a support person; this fee includes your first year's membership of Parents Centre.)

Topics covered in the course include:

  • Issues of late pregnancy

  • Preparation for labour

  • Signs and stages of labour

  • Pain relief and interventions

  • Relaxing and coping techniques

  • Breastfeeding

  • Coping with "life after birth"

  • Equipment for baby, and "tips and tricks"

Once classes are completed, WSPC helps the participants to form an informal support group.

Classes held at the Home of Compassion, Island Bay.

Our points of difference:

  • Our classes are taught by qualified Childbirth Educators

  • We focus on helping each class form supportive groups that can continue for months and years after the birth of your children
