The Wellington region's publication The Sandbox needs someone experienced in MS Publisher to collate and set out content for each issue. This task should take 1 to 3 days'work every 2 moths. The deadlines will be known and content will be provided by volunteer editors. Hourly rate negotiable. Please email us for more information.

More Retailers Join the Membership Discount Scheme

Membership benefits just got better - have you noticed the number of retailers offering discounts to Parents Centre members has increased in the last few months?

With the launch of the region newsletter "The Sandbox", all advertisers and discounters of all six of the region's Parents Centres were offered the opportunity to be involved region wide, and most have taken up the offer. They have also been provided with posters to put up to remind you to ask for the discount.

So remember to take your membership card with you whenever you go shopping or "up the coast", and look out for the posters advertising Parents Centre discounts.

If you have any suggestions for other retailers to approach, please contact us.

Parenting Courses Under Threat!

Continuation of our popular Parenting courses is under threat due to a lack of volunteers to coordinate classes.

All Parents Centre parenting courses are run by volunteers. Although every class is presented by an expert in their field, the back-room work is done by volunteer parents. These are the people who arrange the classes, organize the presenters, take the enrolments, remind the class participants, and attend on the day to make the supper, hand out and collect the evaluation and statistics forms, liaise with the presenter on any comments made, and report back to the Parenting Coordinator. Each course or set of classes doesn't take long to coordinate, but with only a few people doing it, it does add up to a lot of time for them.

Due to second babies, work and study commitments, and volunteers moving away from Wellington, WSPC is down to just 3 volunteers to run 38 classes or courses in 2005! In order to continue to provide a quality service, we are considering reducing the number of parenting courses we offer.

If you would like to stop that reduction happening, please get involved
